Everything about carbonless books and forms
How carbonless paper works (and why there's no carbon sheet)
Carbonless paper — NCR, "no carbon required" — holds ink in microcapsules on the back of the top sheet (CB). Pen pressure makes them react with the coating of the next sheet (CFB for middle parts, CF for the last): the writing reproduces instantly, cleanly, with no carbon sheet to slot in. At 56–60 gsm you write comfortably through up to 4 parts; beyond that the last copy gets too faint — that's the physical limit of the process.
Duplicate, triplicate, quadruplicate: who gets which part?
The duplicate (2 parts) covers the simple case: original to the client, copy for you. The triplicate (3) adds the accounts copy — the most common choice for invoice books and job sheets. The quadruplicate (4) follows full circuits: client, driver, operations, accounts. The trade's colour convention (white, then yellow, pink, blue or green) lets you say "pink goes to accounts" without ever mixing up parts.
Numbering, stub, perforation: the audit trail
The sequential numbering prints on every part of a set (same number) and increments from set to set — and from one order to the next we restart your counter where it stopped. The perforation tears the loose parts out cleanly while the numbered stub stays bound: your chronology stays complete, even years later. Handy day to day, precious in an audit.
Pro tip
List who keeps what before you choose: every unnecessary part is paid for across the whole order, and every missing part is paid for in photocopies. Consider the board last part if your team writes standing up, book in hand — it doubles as a writing surface. And send us your old book, even from another printer: we rebuild the artwork, fix the legal wording and improve what needs improving.
