Everything about saddle-stitched brochure printing in Paris

The saddle-stitched brochure, also known as a stapled booklet, remains the simplest and most economical way to bind a few sheets into a clean, finished document. At Welye, a printer in Paris, we produce your saddle-stitched brochures on demand, from presentation booklets to lightweight catalogues, with genuine advice on paper, page count and finishing. Here is everything you need to know before sending your file to production.

Sizes

The most requested sizes are A4 (21×29.7 cm) and A5 (14.8×21 cm), ideal for programmes, booklets and sales brochures. The 21×21 cm square format adds a modern, premium feel, while A6 suits pocket booklets. Saddle-stitched brochures work in both portrait and landscape orientation. A non-standard size, a particular paper, a special finish? We do it: tell us about your project and we will produce the custom size you need.

Papers & weights

  • Inside pages in gloss or matte coated stock from 90 to 170 gsm for crisp, easy-to-turn pages
  • Heavier cover from 250 to 350 gsm for better rigidity and a reassuring feel
  • Uncoated offset papers and fine art stocks (textured, recycled, dyed-through) on request
  • A specific paper in mind? We source the exact stock suited to your project

Finishes

The cover can take a matte, gloss or soft-touch lamination that protects the brochure and dramatically changes its look. For a premium effect, add spot UV varnish to highlight a title or logo, hot foil stamping in gold, silver or colour, or embossing in relief. Inside, rounded corners or a flap are possible. Need an extra finish you do not see here? Ask for it and we will find the solution.

Finishing & binding

Saddle stitching binds the folded sections with two metal staples set in the central fold. Since each folded sheet creates four pages, the page count must always be a multiple of 4, usually from 8 to 64 pages. Beyond that, or for a thicker result, we point you towards perfect binding. The saddle-stitched brochure stays light, flat and economical: ideal for short runs as well as large offset-printed batches.

Preparing your file

For a flawless saddle-stitched brochure, supply a PDF in single pages (not spreads), in reading order, with 3 to 5 mm bleed and text kept at least 5 mm from the edge. Work in CMYK at 300 dpi and allow for the gutter, as the central pages are trimmed slightly outwards. Our prepress studio in Paris checks every file for free before printing and can handle the layout if needed.
